I wonder how effective they will be in generating sales given the current economic tumult. Southwest though does seem to weather turbulence fairly well.

I think the newer airlines are in a better position financially for the long term. They aren't overburdened with pilot and airline attendant contracts that are out of balance. They have leaner staffs and haven't relied on all of the fees etc. that the legacy carriers have. I think that their downfall would come if they decided that their model could benefit from some of the legacy strategies, especially charging all of the fees, etc.
